Choosing Camcorders

!±8± Choosing Camcorders

The variety of options in camcorders have come a long way. While a few years back only professional videographers had camcorders with all the bells and whistles, these days anyone can have the camera power of the pros.

If a camcorder purchase is in your future, here are some things to keep in mind:

1. Digital or Analog -Digital Camcorders are the general rule these days as they are lighter and more compact than the bulky analog camcorder. Additionally, Digital camcorders are quick and easy to transfer the video to your computer, a DVD, and retain perfect quality throughout.

2. Recoding Media - There are a number of styles of recording media used in camcorders from MiniDV to DVD's and even flash cards. Read up to be familiar with the types of media used by the cameras you are considering.

3. Screen Size - This is an important consideration if you don't want to have your eye to the viewfinder the whole time you are recording. Most camcorders have a small video screen that can be viewed to see the image you are recording. While big screens make it nice to know the shot you are getting, you need to keep in mind they suck up more battery power.

4. Finding Buttons - While many people are wowed by the smaller size of camcorders, it is important to make sure you can still use them. Find out where the controls are on the camcorders and see if you will be able to comfortably and conveniently hit the buttons to get it to work.
